Carl Theodor von Hallberg-Broich (1768-1862), ein deutscher Schriftsteller, Forschungsreisender und Exzentriker, erwarb 1825 das Schloss Birkeneck bei Freising und gründete mit Erlaubnis König Ludwigs I. 1827/28 die Kolonie am Hallberg.
