Die ionischen Inseln (Korfu, Paxos, Ithaka, Kephalonia, Andikythira, Andipaxos, Kythira, Lafkada und Zakynthos) wurden 1809 von den Briten annektiert. Es entstand von 1815-1864 eine Republik unter englischer Verwaltung. 1864 wurden sie an Griechenland zurückgegeben.
